The upcoming UK Digimon tournament at Liverpool’s TCG Expo has had another side event announced. Breaking on the English twitter ahead of time, the first officially supported 3v3 event was announced alongside the final Digimon regional of BT13. Titled “3-ON-3 BATTLLE”.

The rules from the Japanese format have been moved over to English. Events will use the Japanese rules as opposed to the ruleset in use from independent organizers like Griffins Gaming.

These rules allow for players to split the ban list between teammates. This means if a card is at 4 copies, the three team members can have up to 4 of the card between them. This differs from some community events where having a single copy would make the card ineligible for inclusion in teammate decks. It will likely be present at all future regionals across all regions.

Official 3v3 Digimon Tournament Prizing

With official support, comes official prizing. The virus Greymon line that is currently being used as prizing for the EVO Cup format in the East makes its English debut here. Alongside new Beelzemon line artwork for Japanese DC1 events, the 3v3 will have 2 sets of prizing.

Participation: BT11-005 Koromon, ST14-01 Yaamon, EX2-071 Death Slinger
Top 4: BT8-067 MetalGreymon, ST14-02 Impmon, ST14-08 Beelzemon
Champion: BT8-070 BlackWarGreymon, ST14-10 Beelzemon: Blast Mode

Beelzemon may no longer be at full strength but continued WarGreymon support will keep BlackWarGreymon in the limelight.

Do or Die

Recently, the east has been largely moving away from a Best-of-One format to the widely adopted Best-of-Three format of the west. The official 3v3 rules state that the players will play a BO1 game in 25 minutes. Each player that wins for their team will earn their team 1 point. First team to 2 points wins. BO1 is certainly cutthroat, but it will drastically bring the time down for the events.

Tiebreakers

At only 25 minutes, its likely you’ll see ties. In order of tiebreaking:

Most Security Cards (unless both 3 or more)
Most cards in deck.
Most Digimon in the battle area. Including tokens.
Most cards in hand.
RANDOM TIEBREAKER (method chosen by a judge)
