In the most epic showdown of the CDL 2024 season, the New York Subliners and OpTic Texas went head-to-head to close out the Major II Qualifiers. It was a clash of the titans, and with both teams boasting a perfect record, it would mean that the winner secured the top seed going into Major II. In a twist of fate, OpTic Texas managed to secure a dramatic reverse sweep, notching up a final qualifying record of 7 – 0 and landing the top seed for Major II in Miami.

It was one of the most electrifying fixtures thus far in the CDL 2024 season, and it was the perfect way to cap off the qualifying stage for the Major. In typical Call of Duty League fashion, it went down to the final round of Search and Destroy on the fifth map of the series. It ended up with a cat and mouse 2 vs. 2 that saw Dashy land the final two kills needed to secure the series, handing the Subliners their first loss since Major I.

A Surprising Weekend

There were some surprises this past weekend – aside from OpTic Texas securing a super-sized reverse sweep against the New York Subliners. For instance, the Los Angeles Guerrillas – one of the lowest-ranked teams in the League – managed to secure a dramatic win over Atlanta FaZe. For the longest time, FaZe has been seen as one of the best SnD teams on the board, but LAG effortlessly performed a takeover in both rounds of Search, sending Atlanta FaZe packing with a crushing defeat.

We also saw a switch-up in the standings take place, with Vegas Legion finding its feet in the CDL and winding up in T5 as the Major approaches. Last Major, the team was flat bottom with a map win record of just 9 – 20. In this stage, the team has sharpened up and defeated LAG, Miami Heretics, Boston Breach, Seattle Surge, and the Royal Ravens.

To The Major in Miami

All eyes are now turning to the upcoming Major II tournament in Miami, Florida. The stage is set and the bracket is rigged and ready to go – here are the opening fixtures:

Vegas Legion vs. Toronto Ultra
Boston Breach vs. New York Subliners
Miami Heretics vs. OpTic Texas
LA Thieves vs. Atlanta FaZe

Out of those fixtures, we can see the top four teams in the League right now pulling through. That means Ultra, Subliners, Texas, and FaZe will all fight to the following stage, making for a phenomenal second round in the winner’s bracket. It’s almost impossible to predict which squad will win the Major – the top four teams have been razor-sharp all season so far. In a pinch, I’d hand the winning prediction to OpTic Texas, and I can see an OpTic vs. Subliners grand final shaping up.
