Overwatch 2 is coming up on its biggest season to date. Season 6 will launch a new hero, new Story Mission content, and even potentially a crossover with John Cena. It seems there are a few problems in making this hefty update though. Blizzard has warned players that some Overwatch progression could be lost in the new update.
Overwatch devs have been warning players that some progression in game might be lost when the new update hits. This is likely due to updating the progression system as a whole, so some progress won’t be carried over to the new system. It’s frustrating to lose progression, but it seems something bigger is in the works for Overwatch.
Overwatch Progression Could be Lost in New Update
Overwatch 2 devs have clarified how some areas of the game will be changing when the current Overwatch season ends. Hero Challenges and Lifetime challenges have player progression since the game launched. These reward players with icons eventually. If you have any of these challenges incomplete, your progression won’t carry over to the next season.
This isn’t because of any error. Instead, it’s because Overwatch 2 is getting new challenges to replace the old system. Since the older challenges are being discontinued, Overwatch progress could be lost. It’s a shame Blizzard doesn’t have a system to carry this over.
This means that players will only have the remaining time in Season 5 to finish off any of their challenges that are still outstanding. As these are lifetime challenges this might be a bit tricky for some players to get done in time. If you’re particularly set on unlocking a new player icon then you might need to jump in to some extra games over the next few weeks to finish them off. You’ll only have the remaining time to get it done.
