Panda Global at one point had a Smash roster with some of the very best players and was organizing the first official circuit for Super Smash Bros. These days, they aren’t heavily involved in the game after a controversy saw the Panda Cup cancelled and all their players pull out of the org rather than be associated with them. The org made changes, specifically getting rid of the CEO at the forefront of the entire controversy. However, they’re still retracting with the latest being shutting down PGStats and other endeavours.

The company hasn’t just been pulling out of the active esports side with Smash Bros, they’re also shutting down other efforts. They’ve decided not to go ahead with production of the Panda Controller. They’re also shutting down PGStats in a bit of a blow for Smash Bros stats trackers. What does the shutdown mean and will Panda ever get back into Smash Bros?

Panda PGStats Shutting Down

In a recent statement, Panda have clarified some of their future plans. They start by confirming that they’re not signing any players, running any events, or anything like this in the future. Beyond that, they’re planning to shut down the PGstats service currently online. This tracker for Smash Bros stats has been a useful tool. Facing a lack of revenue from Smash, the site will be taken offline.

One other part of their recent statement was a brighter note though. They’ve addressed the major changes to the Smash Bros tournament licencing. They’ve expressed that they have experience in navigating and dealing with Nintendo. Their tournament organizers are making themselves available to help those new to navigating these systems.

The fallout of the Smash Bros mess with Panda recently might have been a major factor in Nintendo’s decision to clarify those tournament guidelines. Making their expertise available is a nice gesture though. Although, Panda might not ever end up back involved in Smash Bros in a more active sense though.
