It has been revealed that Call of Duty’s developers will be a little faster this year with delivering Ranked Play. This is the more challenging, competitive mode found in Call of Duty’s recent multiplayer titles, but when Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2022, it took five months for it to arrive. This year, Modern Warfare 3’s Ranked Play mode will drop within a few weeks of the game being released, it has been confirmed.

When Season One rolls out for Call of Duty players, they’ll get a couple of weeks to learn the ropes, and then with the Season One Reloaded update, Ranked Play will drop. It’s not yet known when the Call of Duty League will kick off, but it’s expected that it won’t be long after the arrival of Ranked Play.

It’s Time To Get Competitive

Ranked Play is a fan-favourite part of the Call of Duty ecosystem that welcomes and rewards more talented players. It’s where the skilled competitors shine, going up against similarly talented gamers in more restricted modes that face a stricter ruling than ‘unranked’ multiplayer modes. It has been around for years, and it’s considered a staple in the Call of Duty space, but sometimes it can be neglected.

For instance, in 2022, Modern Warfare 2 was released in October, and it wasn’t until February 2023 that Ranked Play appeared. It was a situation that rankled with fans, and it seems that developers have learned from their mistakes. This year, Ranked Play is set to be released mere weeks into the lifecycle of Modern Warfare 3.

It’s not yet known what the restrictions, rules, and regulations will be, though. Typically, Ranked Play directly mirrors the rules found in the Call of Duty League. That includes map restrictions, the types of weapons that can be used, and any prohibited perks, equipment, or killstreaks. As this Call of Duty game boasts the largest collection of weapons in the history of the franchise, it could be a year that we see a much more diverse League – when it comes to loadouts, at least.

When Will MW3 Ranked Play Be Released?

Well, at the moment, we don’t have a date locked in and confirmed by Activision or its associated studios. But, let’s work with a bit of common sense. They’ve said that it’ll drop with Season One Reloaded, and a Call of Duty season usually lasts around ten weeks. So, halfway through that would be five weeks, which would put the arrival of Ranked Play around the 17th of December onwards.

This is curious timing, as last year, the Call of Duty League kicked off at the start of December. Could there be an alignment on the way?
