Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 will be released for the iPhone 15 Pro: And that is said to be just the beginning. In an interview with Bloomberg, Capcom gives a glimpse into the future and AAA games on smartphones are expected to play a bigger role
More AAA games on mobile phones
100 million title sales per year is the goal: Bloomberg interviewed Haruhiro Tsujimoto – Capcom’s COO. In the interview, the company reveals that they are aiming to sell 100 million titles a year – and that AAA games on smartphones are expected to play an important role in that.
Tsujimoto assures, however, that the bulk of sales will continue to come from PC titles.
In fact, Capcom has been planning to port full-fledged blockbuster titles to smartphones for quite some time, but the technology needed to do so has not been ready.
The start is now to be made by Resident Evil Village, which according to Capcom and the Apple App Store will be released on October 30 – one day before Halloween.
The following iPhones and iPads will be compatible:
iPhone 15 Pro
iPhone 15 Pro Max
iPad Pro (12.9 inch, M1, 5th gen)
iPad Pro (11-inch, M1, 3rd gen)
iPad Pro (12.9-inch, M2, 6th gen)
iPad Pro (11-inch, M2, 4th gen)
iPad Air (M1, 5th gen)
A release date for Resident Evil 4 Remake has not been set yet, though it is still scheduled for release in 2023. Capcom and Apple plan to continue working together in the future – so expect even more AAA games to find their way onto iPhones and iPads.
Will Capcom acquire other studios or be acquired itself? Bloomberg also asked interesting questions regarding corporate acquisitions and how Capcom feels about them. According to Tsujimoto, Capcom has no interest in buying other studios and instead wants to grow organically.
If Microsoft were to offer to buy the company, Capcom would decline – they prefer a business partnership.
What do you think of this development? Would you like to see more blockbuster titles on mobile? Can you imagine playing the next Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry or Resident Evil on a cell phone? And would you be willing to pay the prices of AAA games (upwards of 60 euros) for the mobile version? As always, write us your opinion on this topic in the comments!
