In a significant development for South Asian esports, Skyesports, a prominent tournament organizer in the region, has announced the launch of one of the first major BGMI esports tournaments of 2024, the Skyesports League. This event, scheduled for March 2024 in Mumbai, India, stands out as it features the country’s top esports teams, each representing a different city.
Shiva Nandy, the Founder and CEO of Skyesports, emphasized that the Skyesports League is set to be a vibrant showcase of India’s cultural diversity, with teams from various cities across the nation contributing to a regional and localized appeal unprecedented in Indian esports. This initiative aims to foster greater regional engagement and generate unique content for fans, aligning with the growing popularity of BGMI esports across India.
The Skyesports League will see 16 cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Punjab, Rajasthan, Ranchi, and Vizag, being represented by different esports organizations. These teams, selected based on their past performance, contribution to the esports ecosystem, and commitment to regional content, will be revealed soon on Skyesports’ social media platforms.
Sashank Bhandaru, Head of Global Business Partnerships at Skyesports, noted the rigorous selection process for participating teams, emphasizing their regional audience engagement capabilities alongside their gaming prowess. He expressed excitement about the tournament’s promise of an immersive experience, including esports action, music videos, memes, and celebration of localized cultures.
The Skyesports League 2024 is a multi-day event set to take place in Mumbai, allowing live audiences to experience and support their favorite teams and the home team, Mumbai Aces, in person. Additional details about the event will be released in due course. Enigma Gaming has already secured a spot in the tournament following their victory in the Pova Cup Season 4 – BGMI, also organized by Skyesports.
