Sony deletes hundreds of series from PlayStation consoles – even if you paid for them

Sony has to remove hundreds of series from its range. These series will soon be deleted, even if you’ve paid for them

You have been able to buy and watch movies and series on the PlayStation for many years. Now the worst-case scenario has occurred: Hundreds of series and shows are being removed from the PlayStation digital marketplace

This doesn’t just mean that you can no longer buy the series. Even if you already own affected shows, they will be removed from your library.

Warner Bros. pulls series

What happened?  PlayStation has (according to Kotaku) recently sent messages to various PlayStation users who have purchased Discovery shows, such as Myth Busters:

Discover is a reality TV network that Warner Bros. recently (merged with HBO Max and became “Max “)  

Which series will be deleted? Sony has published a (complete list of the affected series and shows) published. The most popular shows include Mythbusters, The Most Dangerous Job in Alaska and many more.

Don’t I own the series? Short and sweet: No, they don’t.

The slightly longer answer: The series, movies and games that you purchase on the PlayStation are, so to speak, only permanent loans that you must “return” under certain circumstances. 

These circumstances could include, for example, Sony’s servers going offline or, as in this case, a license holder withdrawing certain content.

Why is the content being deleted?  There is no official statement from Sony on this. The assumption is that the withdrawal from the PlayStation Store has something to do with Warner Bros. new streaming service Max. This is also suspected by (Kotaku) and (Forbes)

Can I prevent this from happening to me?  The safest way to keep your media forever is to avoid digital purchases. Blurays and DvDs cannot be recalled.

However, there is a catch: If, for example, you buy games that only contain a download code for the corresponding online store or must be played online. Then it may well be that the servers will be switched off at some point and you won’t be able to continue playing

With series and films, however, you can play it safe with Blurays and DVDs.

The problem with the Discovery series isn’t the only thing that’s bothering Sony at the moment. The Playstation 5’s Pro controller also seems to have flaws:
