Asian Games Finals – only one between South Korea and China will make it

The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games have officially recognized esports as a medal event and among the seven esports titles, League of Legends is probably the most followed discipline. Back in 2018, League of Legends was only considered a demonstrative event, and China ended up beating South Korea 3-1.

Not only is League of Legends the most recognized esports title in the world but there is a long-standing rivalry between South Korea and China, which can count on the best talent available. Unfortunately, while most were hoping to see the two powerhouses square off in the finals, the matchups and the schedule have decided to put both countries in the same bracket, meaning that they will likely face off in the semi-finals, and only one team will advance to the finals for the golden medal.

China, Malaysia, India, and Saudi Arabia have already advanced to the Knockout stage after the four ended up winning their “Road to Asian Games” tournaments. South Korea, instead, and the remaining 11 teams will have to go through the group stage.

South Korea was placed in Group A with Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. Unless a major upset happens, they are almost guaranteed to advance and face Saudi Arabia. China, on the other hand, will have to wait for the winner of Group B between Japan, Vietnam, and Palestine.

Considering the overall level of the countries, it’s likely that we’re going to have a final between the winner of South Korea and China and Chinese Taipei. The latter is probably the third strongest region talents-wise and they shouldn’t have many issues beating the enemies they will face.
