Team BDS took down PSG Talon in a reverse sweep (2-3) yesterday. They became the first LEC 4th seed to make it into LoL Worlds Group stage, as Adam and his GODS flipped the series on its head and gave BDS one of only few reverse sweeps to ever happen on the LoL Worlds Stage.
BDS are now set to put the GODS to the test with Worlds 2023 favorites JDG Gaming in their next match.
Only a day before the match, Ilias “nuc” Bizriken spoke with media and stated that BDS “should always be confident as a team” in response to their next matchup against PSG Talon. And to be fair, when it mattered most, BDS really came together as a team in execution and game setup.
During the same interview, Esports.net asked the Frenchmen if there were any potential mid lane opponents that he was looking forward to facing the most, should BDS beat PSG and reach the Main Event.
“I guess every mid, because I think there’s a lot of good mid laners in the group stage. But if I have to pick someone, I would say knight, because he’s probably the best in the world and I’ve been watching him for a long time. Yeah, just knight.”
The Worlds 2023 scriptwriters responded in kind. Team BDS will face JDG in their opening round in the Swiss Stage, and nuc will get a chance to face Knight in his first official Worlds main event match.
Adam channels the GODS
One key talking point of Worlds so far has been BDS top laner Adam’s signature champion pool with Garen, Olaf, Darius and Sett coincidentally spelling out the name of Worlds Song: GODS.
He utilised all four champions during the series versus PSG Talon and completed the grand slam. Now we get to test the GODS vs a tough opponent in 369 in the next match. The “obvious” advantage against Azhi will be even less obvious now.
BDS’s players own sentiment was: “I think in Worlds, if you manage to get the strange champion to break the routine of the big team and their knowledge of the matchup and everything, this can get us an advantage. So I think this is one of our unique advantages”, however against a team like JDG cheese picks drop down in value due to the ocean of champions played in the LPL during the season.
If BDS finds ways to beat 369 in the top lane, they will still have to potentially deal with losing mid and bot. Sheo will likely have the hardest task in managing Kanavi and it remains to be seen how the GODS hold up versus the high calibre teams.
