DreamLeague Season 22 has been a marathon event in Dota 2. Games have reached 60, 70 and even 90 minutes long as the late game carry meta reigned supreme. Now, after a dominant performance in the grand finals, Team Falcons have come out as the winners. They beat out BetBoom Team in their second 3-0 grand finals sweep of 2024.
Falcons – new team to watch
Team Falcons are comparatively new as a roster, having only played together since November 2023. But what a few months it has been. After taking home the title at the BetBoom Dacha in February, they were keen to prove they’re no one trick pony team.
In fact, whether it be a qualifiers or an S-tier tournament, Falcons have won 4/4 tournaments they competed in in 2024.
After drawing 5 of their 7 series in the first group stage of DreamLeague Season 22, Falcons didn’t seem to be quite as dominant as they did at the Dacha. But things really picked up in the second group stage, where captain Wu “Sneyking” Jingjun and the team finished with a clean 7-0 (14-1) scoreline.
DreamLeague Season 22 Grand Finals
Dota 2 finals are well known as some of the most exciting events in esports. But it’s got to be said that this wasn’t really the case. It wasn’t close enough to create a proper sense of excitement. The long farming games didn’t really lend themselves to a finals vibe. But nonetheless, Team Falcons’ achievement can’t be slept on.
Game 1 was long and slow, with the farm heavy meta resulting in a slow paced, low kill game while everyone farmed their items.
Game 2 was a little better. We actually saw some decent action and unusual picks. Sneyking picked up Crystal Maiden’s level 20 attack speed talent. But let’s be real, it was just to help him farm.
Game 3, again, looked a little closer. Despite gpk dying early in the midlane, he snowballed fairly well into the mid game. It wasn’t enough in the end and the game fell apart more and more the later it went. Falcons went on to touch a 50k gold lead!
Last year, Gaimin Gladiators were off to a similar start. They went on to win every Major and DreamLeague in the year before finally falling in Riyadh and at The International. Now, it seems Team Falcons are coming for their crown and they’re off to a great start.
