The current aim for the Tekken 8 release date is supposed to be the fiscal year of 2023, it’s important to keep in mind this isn’t the same as calendar year! It could release in the final quarter of 2023 by Japanese financial years, and still be dropping in 2024. It also seems they’re aiming to release last out of the big three fighting game franchises. Street Fighter 6 has already released and Mortal Kombat 1 is coming September 2023. This would put the Tekken 8 release date into early 2024.

Tekken 8 is going to be releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Other versions of the game could come later like a Switch release, but given the power of other hardware and how demanding the game is, that’s pretty unlikely. Games coming to all platforms at different times isn’t that uncommon these days. Often, games aren’t fully exclusive but instead tied to a specific platform for the opening weeks. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Tekken, which will be on Xbox as well.

We don’t know too much more about it right now, but the choice of characters so far seems like we’re getting less of a departure than we got with the Tekken 7 story at least. The Game Awards saw a Tekken 8 trailer focused on story that shed some light on it.

The Tekken 8 release date means most of the current spread of fighting game esports tournaments aren’t going to feature the game. It’ll likely be next year when we start to see that heat up.

Once we do move on to Tekken 8 though, we might be getting a boost to prizes. Devs behind the game have spoken about how the increased Street Fighter prize pool has affected things. They’ve said they’re committed to spreading the prizes out among a wider part of esports community so the game can support more players. However, while they won’t have a single huge prize on the level of Street Fighter, we can probably expect an increase from what Tekken 7 is currently at.

Once we know more about how things are developing, we’ll likely have a clearer picture. For now, that window of early 2024 is likely our best guess for the Tekken 8 release date.
