Recently, Apple’s all-new iPhone 15 was revealed during an exclusive event. It was showcased in all its glory, with Apple highlighting exactly what’s new about the device – which is actually the most expensive iPhone ever. It was stressed just how powerful this device is going to be, boasting one of the fastest chips ever seen in a mobile device. It was also stated that when it launches, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max devices will be able to run ‘AAA games’ with absolutely no concerns.
That means that top-shelf, ray-traced games will be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max phones. That’s not just a ‘could be’, though – it’s confirmed, and they’re coming. It was shown that the likes of Capcom, Ubisoft, and Kojima Productions are on board – mobile versions of their games will be effortlessly ported to the iPhone 15 platform when the phone debuts later this year.
Mobile Gaming is About to Change
If there was one thing holding mobile gaming back, it was the lack of super-refined games that boasted cutting-edge graphics and experiences. It’s definitely getting better, but there were still blockers there. It’s no big secret that the mobile esports scene is blowing up – and has been for the longest time – but when it comes to the core gaming scene, mobile is seen as a weak alternative. However, with the rise in handheld devices in recent years – the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go – there’s a paradigm shift taking place.
This means that there’s now a market ready and waiting to receive better mobile gaming experiences – and Apple is capitalising on that.
When the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models take to the market, they’ll be powered by the razor-sharp A17 Pro chipset. This chip supports real-time ray-traced graphics, which is something we’ve never seen before on a mobile device. So, not only will these mobile games be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max devices, but they’ll likely look better than if they were run on most average gaming PCs.
These are the games that were showcased so far running on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max:
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Death Stranding

Apple Doesn’t Need a Dedicated Gaming Device
It seems like the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max devices are Apple’s attempt to break into the mobile gaming scene in earnest. While other developers are pondering over all-new devices, Apple has just improved what already exists, putting the fastest chip ever made into a cellphone. It gets better, too – with the ability to connect Bluetooth controllers to the iPhone 15 – such as the PS5’s Dualsense or the Xbox controller – you won’t even need to worry about fiddly touchscreen controls.
If you were travelling on a train, for instance, you could flip open your shiny, new iPhone 15 Pro Max, connect a controller, and play Assassin’s Creed Mirage in seconds.
There’s a hefty cost involved, though. It was stressed that the iPhone 15 Pro starts at around $999 while the Pro Max carries with it a price tag of $1,199. At those prices, it does make more fiscal sense to opt for something like an Asus ROG Ally, but everyone needs a phone, right?
