After the latest part of the series was already released for PC in February, Ubisoft released The Settlers: New Alliances yesterday for PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. It is the first time a Settlers installment has been released for consoles.
It’s a big first for the now 30-year-old strategy series. But diehard fans would probably have preferred it if another part had been made available for consoles. Because The Settlers: New Alliances is unfortunately not at all well received by the strategy community. On Metacritic, the meta score reaches a 57, the user score is even a dramatic 2.9.
But what exactly is the community so disgruntled about? Basically, The Settlers: New Alliances has good potential to remain true to its charming and challenging strategy fun. However, after a little playing time, one quickly realises that some features are missing here and that the game is not exactly challenging on the whole. Those who are looking for great strategy challenges will unfortunately not find what they are looking for here.
If you are looking for exactly this kind of easily digestible strategy experience, you can now purchase The Settlers: New Alliances for your console. For even more strategy fun, check out Dune: Spice Wars.
