The multiplayer racer can no longer be purchased on Steam and Co. Even for owners of the game, the racing fun will soon be over for good

If The Crew were a car, Ubisoft would have just slammed on the brakes, switched off the engine and thrown the key over a cliff. This car will soon no longer be driving for anyone.

Gone from the window: As the studio announces (on their website), the nine-year-old The Crew is no longer for sale with immediate effect. Neither on Steam, nor on the Ubisoft Store, nor on any consoles, nor in stores. Anyone who does not yet own the racer will no longer be able to buy it new

Server shutdown: Even owners of the game only have a short time left to cruise through the streets of the USA. On April 1, 2024, the servers of The Crew will be shut down. This is not only the death knell for any multiplayer functions, the single player will also be affected due to the constant need for an online connection. In short: The entire game will be buried.

Refund? If you have recently purchased The Crew, you can potentially refund the game and get your money back – but this depends on the store. At Ubisoft itself, you must not have played the game for more than two hours and the purchase must not have been made more than two weeks ago. There is probably no exception for the case with The Crew

We understand that this may be disappointing for players who are still enjoying the game, but it has become a necessity due to the upcoming server infrastructure and license restrictions. Decommissioning a game, especially our first, is not something we take lightly. Our goal remains to provide players with the best action racing game experience. The MMO racer released in December 2014 stood out with a huge open world, but in our test we criticized the lack of ideas for a strong multiplayer. With a score of 84 points, the studio’s first game was nevertheless convincing. Several updates have not only added new content, but the graphics and driving behavior have also been subsequently improved.

In the meantime, the racer barely manages to attract more than 50 simultaneous players on Steam. However, according to (SteamDB) there were still over 12,000 players on the streets at its peak nine years ago.
