Epic has this week held their big announcements for the year. A lot of it focused on the improvements made to their Unreal Engine. That includes numerous new features and games being built on the platform. For Fortnite fans though, there was quite a bit of new information revealed. The developer has explained a lot about the future of the game, including that we’re moving over to Fortnite UEFN seasons in the future.

In the recent Unreal presentation, Epic has detailed a ton of news about their engine. This includes a few interesting features like bringing the Epic Games Store to mobile. However, for Fortnite fans, there are a few really impressive new features coming to Battle Royale.

Unreal presentations are interesting for Fortnite since they’re more about the engine Fortnite is a showpiece for. However, lately, that’s included tons of massive expansions in Epic’s quest to make the Battle Royale an overarching platform. These are the new features we saw announced for Fortnite during the presentation.

One area that’s shown up in Fortnite leaks for quite a while is the new Creative mode coming to both Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing soon. During the Unreal presentation, Epic detailed that the world creator will come to these modes. Players will be able to create experiences utilizing the Lego and Racing sides of Fortnite in the future.

Players have already done insane things with the Fortnite tools alone. This new expansion means that we’ll start seeing even more impressive things being made with all sides of the game.

Fortnite UEFN Seasons Coming in 2025

In 2025, Epic will switch Fortnite’s core Battle Royale mode over to Unreal Editor for Fortnite. They’ll switch from having the main game be its own thing, to being another mode created purely in UnrealFN.

What exactly does this mean? It might not mean much for a casual player. While some might assume this means we’re getting a downgrade of some type, this won’t be the case. In fact, Fortnite has already run one of its most popular recent seasons directly from UEFN.

The Fortnite OG mini-season brought back the Chapter 1 map. This was apparently recreated using the Fortnite UEFN tools. It also ran considerably better than Fortnite has for quite a while. Although, the less demanding content might be a bigger factor there

This move will see Fortnite UEFN seasons become the norm. The entire ecosystem will be running off of the same tools that Fortnite creators have at their disposal.

Fall Guys Comes to Fortnite

Epic’s other major Battle Royale is Fall Guys, a party game that has a bit in common with Fortnite in some ways. Since the Chapter 4 closing event, we’ve been getting teases about Fall Guys coming to Fortnite. Its assets, game types, and the iconic Bean characters are all getting added to UnrealFN. This will mean creators can make Fall Guys experiences within the Fortnite Creative worlds.

More UEFN Tools

The Unreal editor for Fortnite has been one of the game’s biggest innovations in recent years. This is getting a major expansion throughout the year. There will soon be tools for things like custom UI, first-person camera, and more all in UEFN. We’ll see even more creative projects popping up with these tools. This might be partially why we’re switching to Fortnite UEFN seasons pretty soon too.
