1win Series – latest Dota tournament

Despite being a tier 2 event, the 1win Series has some of the very best Dota 2 teams in the world competing. It wasn’t exactly surprising to see Virtus.Pro, Team Spirit, Team Liquid and Entity come through the group stage without too much trouble.

But fans haven’t had many chances to see VP on the international stage in recent years. This is partially due to a lack of slots available to EEU teams in tier 1 events. The slot that is available is usually filled by Team Spirit as they won qualifier after qualifier.

In today’s games though, VP finally got their revenge. There were some pretty unusual position picks coming out on both sides this series. Spirit played Terrorblade in both position 1 and 4 with little success in both games.

In game 2, VP put a Leshrac in position 4, with remarkable success as it went up against the core TB. When combined with an offlane Dragon Knight, the reliable stuns and heavy magic damage made the lane match up very difficult for Spirit.

VP v Team Spirit Match History

This kind of dominant performance against Spirit isn’t common from Virtus.Pro. Usually, they struggle to take a map off the TI champions, let alone a full series. However, Spirit usually don’t start really turning up until a bit later on in the year. Miposhka confirmed just before DreamLeague season 22 that the team had “no preparation”.

For now, Virtus.Pro can enjoy their position going into the grand finals of the 1win Series. They’ve a tough fight ahead against Team Liquid or Entity but it seems that for now, they’re really on a roll.
