With Rocket League Season 11 upon us, let’s find out when we think Rocket League Unreal Engine 5 is going to be released.

In August 2021 it was leaked through a Psyonix job advertisement that Rocket League would soon be switching to Unreal Engine 5, however we haven’t got any official announcement or updates on the matter as of yet.

Fans are getting more and more frustrated at the lack of any news being shared from the developers, and every new cosmetic item and season announcement feels like a slap in the face.

How would UE5 improve Rocket League?

Switching the engine to UE5 would bring many major improvements to the already popular game. The current UE3 version is becoming quite stale due to its infrequent updates caused by the limitations on what Psynoix can implement to the game using that engine. Fans should expect Rocket League UE5 to massively improve the graphics of the game, as well as bringing new opportunities for fresh content that we have been desperate for.

One downside that many players are worried about is the game physics being affected by the new engine. Competitive players have sunk thousands of hours into the game learning how the physics of the walls, ball and car hitboxes work, and if RL UE5 causes any noticeable difference in the game physics then it may create an uproar in the competitive scene.

We have no confirmed information about how UE5 will change Rocket League, but I think we can trust Psyonix and Epic Games to make many positive changes.

When will Rocket League UE5 be released?

The short answer is we have no idea when Rocket League UE5 will be released. We do know that switching to UE5 will be like creating an entire new game, basically a Rocket League 2. So it is no surprise that this project is taking a long time for the developers to complete.

On top of that they have needed to release new content and updates to somewhat please the current player base to keep them interested until the UE5 release, and this will have slowed down the completion of the project.

It has however been almost 2 years since we found out about their plans for Unreal Engine 5 Rocket League, so my hopes are high that it will be coming in the very near future.

Whilst it is very frustrating having to wait so long for an announcement, I’m sure it will be incredible for the game when they finally release it. We have seen the spectacular events and updates that Epic Games have created in Fortnite using UE5, and it is exciting to think what similar things can be done in Rocket League.
