There’s a brand new rumour circulating that talks about the next collaborative crossover in Call of Duty. Thanks to the efforts of dataminers, it has been suggested that a Walking Dead-themed crossover is scheduled to take place in the near future. As part of this crossover, we’ll likely see Rick Grimes and Michonne land in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone as part of a promotional campaign for the new ‘The Ones Who Live’ series, which starts airing next February.

It’s not so far-fetched. In the last few years, Activision Blizzard has proven that it’s a huge advocate for multi-dimensional crossover events. It has brought countless television, movie, and even music stars and characters into the world of Call of Duty as Operators. It hasn’t even leant on The Walking Dead, though – which is arguably the most globally-recognised zombie apocalypse-based multimedia franchise in history.

Is The Walking Dead Collab Happening in COD?

I’d say there’s definitely a solid chance for Rick Grimes and Michonne to end up in Call of Duty as Operators. There’s no reason why not, after all. They’ve appeared in Fortnite in the past as character skins, and they did well. Recently, Rick Grimes found his way into Dying Light 2 as a ‘Legendary Outfit’, but it was based more on the comic book’s character than the Andrew Lincoln-acted one from the television series.

It even writes itself from a bundle perspective, too. Michonne’s ‘special weapon’ would be her katana, which has been iconic since she emerged into the series way back in season three, which debuted in 2012. For Rick Grimes, there would undoubtedly be some kind of amendment made to the Tyr, Modern Warfare 3’s hefty revolver, to turn it into Grimes’ signature Colt Python.

On February 25, 2024, the new show featuring Rick Grimes and Michonne will air. It’s called The Ones Who Live, and it tells the story of Michonne heading off across post-apocalyptic America to track down Rick Grimes, who disappeared from the show back in March 2019. It was going to be a movie, but there’s probably more sense in launching it as a series, and that’s what’s being done. It joins the slew of spin-off stories that have risen from The Walking Dead franchise in recent years.

More and More

As time goes on, more crossover events are landing in Call of Duty – some of which are utterly unpredictable. In recent months, we’ve seen everyone from Lara Croft to Nicki Minaj find their way into Call of Duty’s ecosystem. We’ve seen crossovers between Call of Duty and Evil Dead, Diablo, Dune, and The Boys. Last year, we saw Terminator, King Kong, and Godzilla enter the fray, and in 2021, John Rambo and John McClane were brought into Call of Duty as Operators.

It arguably started back in 2014, when Michael Myers and Predator were made playable in Call of Duty: Ghosts through downloadable content. Who knows where it’ll go next?
